Articles in the BCS Journal 'The Clematis'

The BCS Journal is sent each year to every member, home and overseas, and the BCS welcomes articles for potential inclusion. Articles can be of general or more specific nature and are welcome from beginners, amateurs and more experienced growers alike. The aim is to present as wide a range of illustrated articles as possible, connected with clematis, hopefully so that there is 'something for everyone' each year.

Articles and letters for possible inclusion in The Clematis should be addressed to: The Editor, Mr B. Collingwood, 11 Mirfield Drive, Monton, Eccles, Manchester M30 9LH or by email to bcollingwood@ntlworld.com

At April 2008: we are really interested in members' (and non-members') experiences of growing clematis successfully in your garden, and how you've enjoyed them, in the UK and Overseas; we are seeking opinions on the clematis books that have influenced you mostly; we are definitely interested if you have a commentary about any breeding of clematis that you have undertaken - raising from seed or by deliberate cross-pollinations; we welcome all views about the clematis you have particularly enjoyed in your garden, over the years, and why; we are interested in any information you have about growing particular clematis species in your garden; we are interested in hearing your story about raising clematis in more-difficult climates (compared with the UK!); we are interested in hearing life-long gardeners' views about clematis and their place/uses in the garden; we are interested in your views about supports and host plants for clematis; we would like to receive information about YOUR experiences of European, and European-derived clematis in the garden; Do you have native clematis in your locality? We'd love to read a description of what excites you about these native clematis, and/or whether you've collected seed or taken cuttings; we'd like to promote fragrant clematis - can you send us your thoughts about them?; and any other interesting clematis-related topics.

If you wish to send an article for possible publication the address is above, or, if you prefer to set out thoughts or principles the material can be expanded into article form or included in a collective article (always with acknowledgement of your contribution).

Copy should be presented on disc in Word format (or an email is fine) if possible but hand-written submissions, notes, queries and letters also are most welcome.

Photos are very welcome (images as large as possible) - preferred as digital images in jpeg, tiff or other format. Articles can be of any length, 600 words (a couple of A4 pages) is suitable for a shorter article.

If submitting technical articles, please include detail and explanation that will aid the lay reader.
